Nice! You've decided to come and visit Prague (and possibly me). This post will give you guidance about what to do to have a comfortable trip.
Before you arrive
Getting to Prague
- From Munich, take the RegioJet bus. It's cheap, more reliable than the trains and more comfortable than FlixBus.
- From anywhere else, the trains are not a bad choice. You can buy cheap tickets from the Czech Railways website. If you order it few weeks in advance, you can get a good deal on tickets even from far away in west Germany.
Software to install before arriving
Make sure to have the "PID Litacka" app (Android and iOS) installed. It's the city's official app for public transit and it will come in handy immediately after you arrive.
Google Maps work well in the city, especially when it comes to reviews. Locals usually don't use it for anything else though. For planning trips with public transit, we'd use the "PID Litacka" app mentioned above. For maps, we would use mapy.cz. But you can also get around with just Google Maps.
Accomodation
I am usually happy to offer a couch to anyone visiting, so just ping me and let's chat whether it will work for all of us.
If you want something fancier, I don't really have much experience with hotels and hostels around Prague. Booking.com will probably work well for finding a place to stay. Please let me know if you find something nice and have a good experience.
The Czech currency
In Czechia, we use Czech Crowns (České koruny, Kč, CZK) as our currency. The exchange rates stays around 1€ ~ 25Kč. It's handy to remember, that 100Kč is roughly 4€.
No need to exchange money in advance, just bring your payment card and you'll be fine.
More research
The YouTube channel Honest Guide is worth a look, it's trustworthy and entertaining source of information about Prague.
To pick out few of their videos or blogs that might be useful:

After arriving
Do
- Buy and activate a multi-day ticket in the PID Litacka app. At the time of writing, 24 hours cost around 5€, 72 hours around 12€ and a full month pass costs 22€. Then use the public transportation system for everything, including for getting from the airport to the city.
Avoid
- Buying anything in the city center, everything including plain water bottles is extremely overpriced.
- Renting the e-scooters. It's usually not worth it due to the cobblestone and the amount of traffic. Also, it's technically illegal to ride on side walks.
- Drink alcohol in the public. Yes, alcohol is relatively cheap. But drinking it in public is not allowed. Go to a pub instead.
- Beware of anything "traditional Czech" in the touristy spots. It's usually neither Czech nor traditional. An example of that is the wide-spread "trdelník". Feel free to buy it, just remember, that it's not exactly traditional and can't be bought anywhere else than in the touristy spots.
